New look website and living with a Mac
I have spent the last 3 days totally rebuilding my website with a new program rapidweaver, This is because of my move to a Apple Mac from a Pc and the fact my old site was getting a little long in the tooth. I had been using FrontPage to build all my sites since 98 the program has always been much detested by webheads because of it’s ugly code. Personally I liked it because it was easy to use and I could create the site to look as I wanted it without having to understand any code really. Now days I do know more about code and i have a greater understanding of how websites work. That said I’m still really not a great fan of website construction so I wanted a program that had a simple learning curve, would present a site in a clean easy to use fashion and have a few web innovations without the viewer having to keep installing plug ins or updating to the latest browsers. I also wanted to be able to tweak the program so I could get the site to look a little different from the generic template.
While I did have a few mental blocks in the construction of the site, it all went well but I also used a ftp program so I could move files around on the server and see them, which made my life easier, I like to understand files structures sad I know, but I like to know how things work up to a point.
So the site is up and running, I would have to say that without the rapidweaver add-ons from yourhead software the site would have been far from as easy to construct, in fact I’m not sure I could have built it in the way I wanted, so thank you Isaiah for your great work .
Mac update
I now have my mac up and running, the replacement mac did not have any problems with the screen, My old window programs are running on the mac via Fusion a program that lets you …well run windows on a mac basically. The only programs I’m running on windows are Photoshop because I can’t justify the upgrade price from cs2 to cs4 for the way I work cs4 really offers me nothing new.
I’m also running window live writer which is how I write these blogs, Every one of the Mac blog writers I have looked at has fail to come close to live writer. Even those that see Microsoft as the spawn of all evil have to agree the perfection of live writer. Now if only Microsoft would bring out a mac version it would make my life easier and also it would put the cat amongst the pigeons. I think any person who blogs and uses a mac would use it straight way and just swallow their pride. That’s it for what i’m using fusion for.
I have replaced Microsoft word with a free mac program called OpenOffice which works very well for what I do. I guess ilife will be used to make my future slide shows and videos but as yet I haven’t really used that.
Any way enough of my computer related ramblings I will leave you today with my latest photographic image ‘Sunday walk’ which you can located and buy in the sites gallery ‘peace’
I hope you like the new look of the site, I know I do.
have a great day
Tony
PS I just had to say that while I love the mac, the mouse that came with it was very frustrating (it was much more than that but I’m being polite ) it was replaced with a £4 usb mouse which work much better for someone coming from thousands of years of using a PC, On the upside I do love the mac keyboard.
