Trance Around The World – the power of music

February 14, 2009 tonypinfold Comments off

As a person I refuse to be placed into a pigeon hole, this is particularly true when it comes to music. I haven’t really spoken about how important music is to me, all types of music, from bubble gum pop to alternative Rock, from classical to new age. This is not just me trying to sound hip and connect to the widest audience. When I’m not writing (listening and writing with dyslexic is impossible for me), I love to have itunes on shuffle playing songs at random from my Classic digitized CD collection to my latest purchased mpegs. During a half hour we can go from Bliss, Lily Allen, linkin Park, Beyoncé, Britney, Neon Neon, Depeche Mode, Genesis, Enya, coldplay etc etc.

But when it comes to the creation of my work I often like to slip away into trance (Dance) Music. I find the way the music ebbs and flows to be a very spiritual experience for me. Some weeks ago I found a brilliant pod cast called:
Trance Around The World with Above & Beyond / Website :- http://www.aboveandbeyond.nu/ Or if you have itunes just search Trance Around The World in the podcast section.
It is around 2 hours long and is a highly polished program where talk never invades your enjoyment of the music. These 3 DJs do what they say on the box they take Trance Music to clubs and festivals around the world, which is great but their carbon foot print must be huge.  Anyway if you love trance music as I do I suggest you give this show a listen you won’t be disappointed .

One of my web friends Laura Faeth has be taken on spiritual journey via music, much like the one I have been taken on via Art .
While her book ‘I Found All the Parts’
http://www.soundofyoursoul.com is more based in rock & roll music, I feel the ‘spiritual’ experience and euphoria found at a rock concert or in trance club is often over looked. Underneath all the excesses of  sex, drink and drugs something much deeper is happening which has been long lost in western ‘civilization?’, we begin to return to the power of the tribe  for a short time as we become a ocean of humanity joined in joy rather than our normal separate ego driven selves.

I think you should watch this video as I think Laura explains it very well.

So whatever kind of music you enjoy take a new look at it and see this could be the one place in your life where you are connecting to something far deeper than you know. I’m off to enjoy episode 255 of Trance Around The World, have a great day friends.

Living Dialogues and Beyond Reason

As you will know I’m a big fan of podcast as I feel they play a important part in expanding the mind beyond the dross that is the main stream media. For those of us in the UK who are into Non-Aligned spirituality, podcast are a easy and most of the time free way to expand our horizons. Two podcast which I very much enjoy listening to are Living Dialogues with Duncan Campbell and Beyond Reason with Teddy Bart and  Karlen Evins. Both programs are very professional produced and both never fail to have some very enlightened and thought provoking guests on them. Sometimes I guess the topics on these programs may be a little Americanized for some ears , but I have no doubt that in general you will find these podcast’s a breath of fresh air.

While you maybe in what I call a spiritual comfort zone, I feel all of us must keep our eyes and ears open to new ways of seeing things. Unless we can embrace other ideas or the very least understand them, we will never grow as people and will be doomed to repeat the darkest moments of history again and again. If you truly see yourself on a spiritual path of self discovery you will not reject any concepts or favour one system over another until you have opened your heart and mind to all possibilities. Also you should not use ‘Computer competence’ as an excuse for not being able to listen to these free programs.

Here is just a small list of some of the guests who have been on Living Dialogues over the past few years :- Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, Rupert Sheldrake, Byron Katie, Marianne Williamson

You can find out more info about this free program at http://www.livingdialogues.com/

Here is just a small list of some of the guests and topics that have been on  Beyond Reason over the past few years :- Neale Donald Walsch, Gregg Braden, living in the now, Mayan predictions, indigo children, UFO sightings, Remote viewing

You can find out more info about this free program at http://www.beyondreason.com

Or better still get the free itunes program on your PC or mac and sign up to these programs through that.
See my blog on itunes and podcasts here :-

So if you want to escape to a world of new ideas and possibilities give these podcast’s a listen. Enjoy

What is a Podcast/ How to listen to one…

What is a Podcast?

Well I leave to my good friend Wikipedia to explain:-
A podcast is a series of digital-media files which are distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media players and computers. The term podcast, like broadcast, can refer either to the series of content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also called podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.

Why do I think podcast are brilliant?

*Well for many reasons Pod casts give you the chance to learn about things the mainstream media has no interest in or could it be the mainstream media has no interest in you being interested.

*If you like radio 4 or the World Service you’ll love podcasts as you can just listen to what you want without all that negative news.

*They are more times than not, totally free and very easy to download and play on your PC or media player such as an ipod.

*If you live in the U.K and are interested in things of a spiritual nature you really have very few other ways of finding out about all the different ideas and concepts.

*Most of the time the production qualities match or exceed that of radio talk shows.

*Very few commercials

How to listen to a podcast…
There are many ways you can listen to a podcast but most of them first require you to download the file containing the program. Now I know not everyone is a computer geek and still for many sending e-mail is problematic!

So this is the easiest way to start listening

Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Download the Itunes software (don’t panic it’s free & you can have a PC or Mac)
Once loaded go to the podcast section of the store
Seek out what you want to listen to (most of it is free, but some of the big name stuff costs money… chose wisely)
Down load the file (the Itunes software will do this all for you)
Turn on your PC speakers and enjoy the program

If you find something you really like to listen to you can subscribe to a podcast and Itunes will automatically download the next new program when it is released. It does this only when you open the Itunes program.

As I said there are many ways you can get podcasts this is just the least problematic.

So if you have never listen to a podcast before what are you waiting for – get expanding your brain.
